I don't get the fuss. Is this the same Chris Cornell who was in middle-of-the-road rock, Led Zep wannabes, Soundgarden. Hardly cutting edge was he?

"An indie film becomes shit if it uses a mainstream artist." Replace "indie" with "classic". I'm just sayin', like. |

dude, so what you are suggesting is soon as someone makes any small amount of success in the film industry they must either voluntarily go into exile in the Congo or we should stop putting them in movies. I agree that alot of mainstream actors/ actresses don't have any talent and i love independent movies. But logically someone is going to be on top. And also logically here, quality of a film has nothing to do with whether it's "indie" or mainstream. generalizing creates radicalism man. |

A sticky issue indeed! I'm not attacking you anyhow, because you have a brain, and I like you. *Important note: My judgements of character and rules of etiquette are completely subjective, sometimes illogical, and highly unfair. Those that I favor are allowed to break them with little or no repercussion, while those I do not are forever condemned to the category of tedious imbecile. That's just how it is. |

That is probably the point. In the UK, I'd be surprised if more than 2% of the population have heard of Chris Cornell. Bond themes have generally been the preserve of the internationally mainstream artist, which is, I suppose, where my horror at his being selected to do the new one comes from. I know that Bond films are pure cinematic fluff, but nevertheless I enjoy them. The new film has a new actor playing Bond, which tends to mean that the style of the film will change, and since I have enjoyed the last few with Pierce Brosnan, the though of a change of style is not a comfortable one. I guess that I see a further implication of change of style in the change in the type of theme tune artist. |

Is it fair to say that Soundgarden weren't mainstream, but Audioslave are? Especially given that the public's taste is more guitar-oriented now. I'm surprised at some of the people I know who are Cornell fans now, because of Audioslave. These are Coldplay and Franz Ferdinand fans I'm talking of.

I'm rather out of touch with what "the kids" are listening to these days, I'm afraid. I know my niece likes The Kooks, but that's as far as it goes.

Cornell being mainstream is a toss-up. alot of people wouldn't know the name but they would know either a Soundgarden song or an Audioslave song. Compared to Led Zeppelin he's not mainstream but when compared to the Velvet Underground he would be probably.

Chris Cornell used to rock. He doesn't really anymore, but I'll give him a pass because his solo album was really good, and he needs to record another one STAT.
