adam:
is it cool if I use impotence inversion table as a song title? I think it's nifty. |

Little known fact:
Sonic Youth are the rightful heirs to the legacy of The Dead. Both acts were/are essentially sloppy jam bands with finely tuned rock songs hiding at their center. (Well, i love GD almost as much as SY anyway.) |

you and me both, I dare say I love the Dead more than the youth, more than music itself! though honestly, TOOL has been my thing, with songs like Parabola, Lateralus, The Patient, The Grudge, etc I think that they are a straight religious band, and I am a religious person.. I call the vibe of those tunes the prophet's lament, like Jonah, who simply wished to die because God was too good for him..

Go easy man. People are allowed to have their own perspectives on music.

Don't forget the similarities betwen Kim's and Donna Jean's tonal abilities, although in fairness, I don't think Donna Jean was working in the no-wave avant garde.

ahem: " Clutch it like a cornerstone. Otherwise it all comes down. Justify denials and grip 'em to the lonesome end. Clutch it like a cornerstone. Otherwise it all comes down. Terrified of being wrong. Ultimatum prison cell. Saturn ascends, choose one or ten. Hang on or be humbled again." The Grudge " A groan of tedium escapes me, Startling the fearful. Is this a test? It has to be, Otherwise I can't go on. Draining patience, drain vitality. This paranoid, paralyzed vampire act's a little old. But I'm still right here Giving blood, keeping faith And I'm still right here. Wait it out, Gonna wait it out, Be patient (wait it out). If there were no rewards to reap, No loving embrace to see me through This tedious path I've chosen here, I certainly would've walked away by now. Gonna wait it out. If there were no desire to heal The damaged and broken met along This tedious path I've chosen here I certainly would've walked away by now. And I still may ... (sigh) ... I still may. Be patient. I must keep reminding myself of this. And if there were no rewards to reap, No loving embrace to see me through This tedious path I've chosen here, I certainly would've walked away by now. And I still may. Gonna wait it out." The Patient "There was a time that the pieces fit, but I watched them fall away. Mildewed and smoldering, strangled by our coveting I've done the math enough to know the dangers of our second guessing Doomed to crumble unless we grow, and strengthen our communication." Schizm " We barely remember who or what came before this precious moment, We are choosing to be here right now. Hold on, stay inside This holy reality, this holy experience. Choosing to be here in This body. This body holding me. Be my reminder here that I am not alone in This body, this body holding me, feeling eternal All this pain is an illusion. Alive, I In this holy reality, in this holy experience. Choosing to be here in This body. This body holding me. Be my reminder here that I am not alone in This body, this body holding me, feeling eternal All this pain is an illusion. Twirling round with this familiar parable. Spinning, weaving round each new experience. Recognize this as a holy gift and celebrate this chance to be alive and breathing. This body holding me reminds me of my own mortality. Embrace this moment. Remember. We are eternal. All this pain is an illusion." parabola "I embrace my desire to feel the rhythm, to feel connected enough to step aside and weep like a widow to feel inspired, to fathom the power, to witness the beauty, to bathe in the fountain, to swing on the spiral of our divinity and still be a human." Lateralus " And as I pull my head out I am without one doubt Don't wanna be down here feeding my narcissism. I must crucify the ego before it's far too late I pray the light lifts me out Before I pine away. So crucify the ego, before it's far too late To leave behind this place so negative and blind and cynical, And you will come to find that we are all one mind Capable of all that's imagined and all conceivable. Just let the light touch you And let the words spill through And let them pass right through Bringing out our hope and reason ... before we pine away." reflection " Prayed like a martyr dusk to dawn Begged like a hooker all night long Tempted the devil with my song And got what I wanted all along But I I would If I could I would Wish it away Wish it away Wish it all away Wanna wish it all away" Jambi " You're the only one who can hold your head up high, Shake your fists at the gates saying: "I've come home now! Fetch me the spirit, the son, and the father. Tell them their pillar of faith has ascended. It's time now! My time now! Give me my, give me my wings!" You are the light and way that they will only read about. Set as I am in my ways and my arrogance, (With the) burden of proof tossed upon the believers. You were my witness, my eyes, my evidence, Judith Marie, unconditional one. Daylight dims leaving cold fluorescents. Difficult to see you in this light. Please forgive this bold suggestion, but Should you see your Maker's face tonight, Look Him in the eye, look Him in the eye, and tell Him: "I never lived a lie, never took a life, but surely saved one. Hallelujah, it's time for you to bring me home."" Wings For Marie II " Angels on the sideline, Puzzled and amused. Why did Father* give these humans free will? Now they're all confused. Don't these talking monkeys know that Eden has enough to go around? Plenty in this holy garden, silly monkeys Where there's one you're bound to divide it right in two. Angels on the sideline, Baffled and confused. Father blessed them all with reason, And this is what they choose? Monkey killing monkey killing monkey over pieces of the ground. Silly monkeys. Give them thumbs, they forge a blade, And where there's one they're bound to divide it right in two. Monkey killing monkey killing monkey over pieces of the ground. Silly monkeys. Give them thumbs, they make a club to beat their brother down. How they've survived so misguided is a mystery. Repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability To lift an eye to heaven, conscious of his fleeting time here. Gotta divide it all right in two. Fight till they die over sun, over sky, They fight till they die over sea, over air, They fight till they die over blood, over love, They fight till they die over words, polarizing. Angels on the sideline again, Benched along with patience and reason. Angels on the sideline again, Wondering where this tug of war will end. Gotta divide it all right in two." Right in Two

should i replace the term religious with theological? if you have ever read some of the homilies of the early church fathers, or even simply the book of Job or the Psalms then you would easily find the parallels between these lyrics and those, but then again, I am a sunday school teacher..
