Yes, this is really, really, harsh. One of the pioneers of industrial, electronic, experimental, and avant music has left us. RIP Sleazy Christopherson of Throbbing Gristle, Psychic TV, and Coil. Words fail.

tremendously sad, ive only recently begun to appreciate the earth shaking greatness of Coil, he sits atop the podium for his work with Coil. Im yet to delve into Throbbing Gristle and Psychic TV, but shit

It's weird how you always learn more about people when they die. I didn't know he had worked on album covers for Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd or shot the original Sex Pistols photo shoot. From stuff I've read before, I'd always seen Throbbing Gristle as almost completely removed from the rock and even punk continuums, but apparently that wasn't exactly the case.

I knew about his Hipgnosis job from reading about them in my early fandom, and it made me marvel all the more at his groundbreaking aesthetic choices when it came to his personal artistic vision, seeing how Hipgnosis album covers were kind of the "gold standard" for a certain era in classic rock LP design.
I am genuinely saddened by his death. True visionaries are rare. |
