Anyone seen this movie? What's your opinion about it? The structure was pretty similar to "Amores Perros", however I think it's a beautiful and really sad piece of a movie.
And yeah, there's Cate Blanchett and Gael Garcia Bernal in it. (and this cute japanese teenage girl too)

I think I could have done without the Japanese girl's story. That was too farfetched if you ask me.

yes it was great, i loved it. not sure it "stayed" with me, but it was a very pleasureble experience. i guess in part because of the structure, it makes it hard to... assemble in memory as a whole.

Hah, weird. I loved the japanese story the most of all movie. Just because of the loneliness that surronded the girl.

^^ yes, i loved the way her deafness was portrayed and how her silent world entered the movie, the humiliations she had to put up with, her desperate need to be accepted-- brilliant

And the scene where she entered the disco and the people were jumping around in complete silence - that was just awesome.

go see it! it's nice-- i saw it at sundance. i <3 adrienne shelley and it breaks my heart that she died, and died so horribly. she's directed & acted of course. the movie is not wholly extraordinary but i love her style. the performances are very good too! nathan fillion is hilarious. and the girl who plains the main character is a beauty... very endearing movie altogether |

Nathan Fillion is an amazing actor with an amazing face. I still have Babel in the "films to watch" pile.

my problem with babel is that the fragmented style, which traces the gun, does not allow us to go too much into each individual character. it becomes something like 4 short-stories but i keep wanting more. still it was done brilliantly and economically from the point of view of narrative-- a lot is said with few but very meaningful shots & scenes.

Ive seen Babel twice now...the first time I think I was kinda disappointed, probably because of my expectations...but it is so well done and entertaining, and the material is so interesting for anyone who has traveled or experienced an inability to communicate with people of different culture.

yeah, the gun is something like a connection point between distant stories. In most of them, this connection works well (story of the Moroccan family vs. Brad Pitt's and Cate Blanchett's struggle), although for example the japanese story does not fit into the whole plot very well. (still a great story itself, as I have said before) Nevertheless, I still think that the description of the characters in the movie is done very well (especially the Moroccan family, as well as the Mexican babysitter).

I really liked this movie! This kind of structure works well with me.
I liked how it shows that 2 people who love each other can somehow lose what they got and then get it all back. I really liked that scene when he's helping her to pee. Sounds weird to say that but it's true! |

Haven't seen it, but from what I heard it is Crash meets Traffic. It hasn't sparked my interest.
