does anyone know if they knew each other?
i know that the band admire the guy, but i was wondering if they had met, or if ginsberg knew of sonic youth, seeing as they are both doing their art in the same city... just general curiousity.,....

Here's a quote from Ginsberg's poem, "Newt Gingrich Declares War on 'McGovernik Counterculture'."
Blues, Jazz, Bebop, Rocknroll? Where did it get countercultural? What about Elvis' Pelvis? Sonic Youth dumbed, Cobain's screams banished from Nirvana? |

The whole poem is great. It's from his book DEATH AND FAME: LAST POEMS 1993-1997, which is an amazing collection. It's my understanding that at least Lee & Thurston knew Ginsberg somewhat.

Yeah, I think they knew Ginsberg because I remember seeing some movie type thing and i think either Thurston or Lee was interviewed. So was Patti Smith. Yeah that poem is definitly one of his better later poems, i actually think most of the poems from Death and Fame are really not worth mentioning. Especially in comparison to HOWL, Kaddish, and Reality Sandwiches.

I saw it. It was...alright. Really short, it is basically just a reading of the poem interspersed between scenes of the trial. Not incredibly insightful, but enjoyable.
