Some news for the curious:
Author: Arzgarth Date: 9/8/2006 9:49:09 AM Members of Scottish post rock icons Mogwai and underground metal heavyweights Electric Wizard have teamed up to create a new outfit - Crippled Black Phoenix - to be produced by Portishead visionary Geoff Barrow. Several years ago, a chance meeting backstage between Justin Greaves (Iron Monkey, Hard to Swallow, Electric Wizard, Varukers) and Dominic Aitchison (Mogwai), lead to a long term friendship that trailed off with promises of doing a project together “some day.” Fast forward to 2006 and the rest of the puzzle easily fell into place with ethereal folk songster Joe Volk (who also fronts rock titans Gonga) and 3D House of Beef founder Nial McGaughey pledging their part in the group, the time of longtime friends to make something weird and wonderful had begun. With a passion for creating epic and memorable "endtime ballads," Crippled Black Phoenix has embarked on their voyage of producing a cinematic trilogy of celestial recordings. The sound of the band is a haunting mix of nonsensical allegories, crooked advice, antique prose and the sunset of redemption. "I`ve been waiting for someone to make a record like this for a long time," says producer Geoff Barrow. Joining the group from experimental Greek/Cornish rock archons Pantheist are members Andy Semmens and Kostas Panagiotou, with additional musicians being trapped and released from several UK orchestras. The band has built a MySpace page with several `test recordings` available for download here. The band`s homepage is http://www.crippledblackphoenix.com. or http://www.myspace.com/crippledblackphoenix |
