Inspired from my twitter feed about NYC Ghosts&Flowers and Pearl Jam Binaural i wanted yo post about this record. I know its official release is June 20 but this marks when the bootleg was leaked on Napster..

That record was such a visceral and cerebral transformation from the straight up rap rock that defined deftones first two records. It was like their OK Computer, a calculated experiment and risk to try something very different. Its formulaic, it still has elements of hip hop. It elaborates on the electronic textures that Frank had always snuck in live and on Around The Fur.. it is a masterpiece. It also marked a turning point where Chino started playing guitsr and writing guitar parts which almost destroyed the band. Its like when John Lennon took over the Beatles or QTip took over Tribe Called Quest. Chino was doing all the producyion with Abe in the studio, taking the band away from its minimalist wall of chords sound.. its also when they grew up from "our band" to a mainstream band, for better or worse.

15 years later this record is so much more than just nostalgia. It still feels new, fresh,different. Its still a weird and emotive record. It still has its ambient beauty and noir feel.

Btw, if you don't have pm me, the leaked version is SOOOOOOO much better than the released version, it is a different mix down, more Frank shit, different track listing, different guitar work..
