seemingly the "purists" insist the mono version is the only way to hear it. the mixes are different and there is certain bits which arent obviously audible on the stereo mix. but yeah, i get what you mean in saying "why?"

check piper at the gates of dawn. nothing else is worthy of comment as far as im concerned. interstellar overdrive is a work of machievellian genius. that is if machievelli played spaced out prog infected music!

I've got the mono version, at the time I bought it t'was only 5$ more than the "normal" one (on cd) - 30$ vs 25ish. I've never compared it with the stereo one, only had it before on a cassette dubbed from the local library.
As for the extra artwork, well there ain't much to rave about, seems to be similar with what pink floyd were doing in the 90s (division bell era, ugh) with cryptic pictograms and shit that look really out of place with the cd. Didn't know there was a 2-disc version though.... Edit: yeah, Piper is the shit, although i've got a soft spot for More, for some reason (and not the film.... saw some bits and it looks terribly boring) |

Yes, there's good stuff on Ummagumma, Meddle, The dark side of the moon, Wish you were here and Animals. The live at Pompei video is also great. |

the 3 cd edition isnt ridiculously overpriced. Its 27 flat on amazon brand new. Thats where im getting my copy.
Im really curious if fans of this record can say its worth both owning the mono and stereo version of it? Can you really hear a difference on certain tracks?

i like the the post syd, pre dark side floyd a lot, it's dark, noisy, spacy, improvy, an amazing band.
piper is good, but not as good as what they did right afterwards. later on, they have their moments and they tend to get tiresome. and no, i don't have the new piper edition yet. |

I'll download the mono version. I'm not shelling out any money for a reissue when I already have it on vinyl. Great fucking record, regardless. Love it to death and listen to it regularly.
