this is one of the most driving pieces of music Ive ever experienced. It stuck in my head while watching the film at the cinema. the chord progression even outplayed the excellent movie for me for a second. after that I was on the hunt for mombasa. Listened to a lossless version over pretty good headphones to it and almost lost my mind. this is just sooo good. the mixture and the usage of all the different ingredients drives me nuts. I always was a fan of almost anything zimmer did. but in a way mombasa crushes everything to pieces at the moment. maybe its different on tomorrow, but for now, this is sublime! just wanted to share that. for anybody who is interested how Zimmer created the Soundtrack, this article will kill: http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2010...ack-edith-piaf

The soundtrack to Inception was nice but I've always thought that Hans Zimmer was hugely overrated. The soundtrack to The Dark Knight was pretty good (probably because he worked with James Newton Howard). He does that kind of symphonic Hollywood soundtracks that I've always found bland... His Broken Arrow theme might be one of the most annoying things I've ever heard. Also, I love True Romance but his work on that one was quite terrible... It's just my opinion but he sure got better with time and Inception was amazing, so what the hell.

I think he got a pretty distinct style. especially his percussion driven almost "experiemntal" OSTs like for the dark knight.
"why so serious?" aka the jokers theme. consists 8 minutes of 1 note, just in the last minute a second note is being introduced. and its impressive what kind of soundscape he creates with that. I like that he tends to be experimental in such a tradition-driven environment like hollywood. regarding the inception OST: Ive read some comparisons to the blade runner vangelis OST. I totally disagree. Of course he introduces in the second half of the longest tune one the disc some similar sax-sounding analog synths, which really reminded me of vangelis work in the early 80ies (which I truly love), BUT Zimmer isnt capable of creating such beautiful melodies like vagelis. Zimmer is best in ceating atmosphere, and tension. thats what he is best in IMO. and "Mombasa" is one of the best examples I think. Listened to it today on a audiophil Sound system and there were goosebumps everwhere. I cant resist this chord progression

Well, I guess no one is interested in Hans Zimmer's work on here... ? At least, I like the fact that he hired Johnny Marr for some guitar parts, he did a really good job.

That's weird. I'm sure there was another thread about this with a lot more posts. I remember saying I was a fan. Weird.
