I hate Bobbie Gillepsie. I really do. And I don't like most of Primal Scream stuff (even Screamadelica, that everyone seem to consider as a complete masterpiece, just bored me). But then there's XTRMNTR.
Probably one of my favorite albums ever, it's just perfect. I can't find a single track on it I don't love, everything's great. And Exterminator has to be one of the best electro songs ever (when those destructive synths come it's just insane), and the lyrics are just pure genius too. Don't you think so? Quote:

yup, I'm exactly with you. bobby gillespie is a mind bogglingly grating nipple and yet xtrmntr is so amazingly good even he can't shag it up .

To me Primal Scream was a band formed around Gillepsie. Hence I believed there wouldn't be any instrumental.
So there, the big surprise was Blood Money, where there's no Bobby at all, and a great great track. |

i still don't have this, but all the songs i've heard from it are great.
vanishing point is the one i love. and gillepsie is an utter utter cunt, i don't support this band anymore because of him. |

I remember when alternative press was still cool (though they would only be cool for another year or so) and they named this album of the year in 2000. 2000 was one of the best years for music I can think of and was just SHOCKED that this won.
It's a good album though. |

Never got this record but they were unbelievable on this tour. Far too loud for a band that isn't that great. Far too good for a band that isn't that great, at least on that tour.

Just for the record - why is Gillespie such a twat? I mean, I don't know anything about him, I'm just being curious.

As much as I love Screamadelica, Vanishing Point, XTRMNTR & Evil Heat, it's pretty undeniable that Primal Scream's best moments are entirely thanks to their collaborators (Andrew Weatherall & Kevin Shields), but when left to their own devices, they just churn out third-rate pastiche-of-a-pastiche boogie rock.
And yeah, he's a walking cliche, but I've got a soft spot for Bobby G personally... |

Pretty much. I always wish they would do something really ripping and prove everyone wrong, but the good points of their stuff always come from the collabs. Even on the last album, the good guitar and vocal parts came from outside sources. |

Some of Screamadelica is really good, such as Slip Inside This House, Loaded, Higher Than The Sun, and some of it is really repetative and it bores me.

Screamadelica was hugely underwhelming for me, i was told it was amazing but i really dont like it. XTRMNR however is a monster.
I see whats said about Gillespie, he isnt much more than a druggie, but the band are ferocious enough on this album to overpower him

i like all their records except those 2 albums where they sound like bad rolling stones (give out & the last one) and this is clearly their best album.
shoot speed/kill light might be the best song made in this century.
