Anyone see this show? it's pretty engrossing. by the time i watch a complete episode i feel like i'm going through detox myself. it's pretty raw and frightening. there was one episode where this chick was hooked on meth and alcohol, running around naked in the streets. she was pretty hot actually. she was completely out of control tho, brawling it out with her sister and shit. any thoughts? i think its good tv and may do some good for people dealing with that sort of thing.

I remember thinking the meth-alky girl was pretty hot, too. I also remember feeling like a sick voyeur every time I watch the show. It's one of those shows that purport to teach you something (in this case, addiction, I guess) but all they really do is give you a National Enquirer kind of sensationalism that exploits others' misfortunes. It's sleazy.

it's a weekly hr long show, yeah, documentary style. it is exploitive, but i think unless u see this shit, u can be detached from how fucked up and life threatening drug addiction can be. some of these people could die any day. if it makes people scared its good.

True. Aside from some of us here, I don't think many of us find what they show to be very familiar in our own lives. But I fail to see what there is to learn new after seeing one episode: subject fucks up life with addiction to drugs and/or alcohol, subject's family and friends agree to hold an intervention, subject agrees to go to rehab (or does not agree), subject fulfills or does not fulfill rehab obligation, and subject goes on to live either a better or worse life.
The best that can be said is that the show never gets very preachy. There's no blatant "just say no" message, although you do clearly see how fucked up people can get over their various addictions.

I was thinking about making a thread about this show awhile back, but I never did. I love that show......I'm pretty sure I've seen every episode. I just keep telling myself, "Ok at least yr not THAT fucked up." I also like those 2 shows at the tattoo parlor (one on A&E and one on TLC) and Family Plots.

Oh, I know, but I try not to let myself feel like that--"I'm not THAT fucked up," etc., becuz 1) I feel sorry for these poor people, and 2) I always fear that maybe I really AM that fucked up in my own way (uh, the vinyl thing, remember... double purchases of Blonde on Blonde, VU...).
