I just recommended Hole's cover of "Gold Dust Woman" by Fleetwood Mac to a friend. I hadn't heard it in over a decade, and had fairly good memories of it. I decided to listen to it on youtube. It's terrible.

I'm guessing there are a number of shit songs that I think I like based on distant memory. How many times have I unknowingly embarrassed myself by recommending bad songs that I think are good because I haven't heard them in years. Many, I'm sure.
