DC has changed so much the last 2 decades, I used to park out in front of the 930 Club for a long time, now parking is much more a hassle (Unwound is playing the late show next month so that is gonna be a mess), as a venue the sound quality is really great

for DC also recommend the new Anthem out on The Wharf, think holds 3000 plus, so a number of artists that have outgrown the 930 Club play there like Sleater-Kinney, St Vincent and all

Thanks for the recommendations. I don't think I'll be in the DC area any time soon but stranger things have happened.I do have an old friend who lives in the area I haven't seen in a long time, so maybe a road trip in the not too distant future is in order.
