People think vinyl sounds "better" or "warmer" because of the surface noise created by the needle meeting the record. When the CD came out in the 80's vinyl might have contained better quality audio but not anymore. In fact you can master CD's with more low end than vinyl because overloading low end on vinyl makes the needle skip.

The debate is almost over at this point. Digital is the future.
