The Ethiopians were heroes when they came in December 2006, and they had a coalition of war lords and a new government by January 2007, the first such transitional regime to be established since 1991! However, in sticking around for years, they CREATED a new insurgency, just as the US did in Iraq, and had they pulled out say March or April 2007 they would have succeeded in Somalia and the violence would never have escalated to the levels it is at today.

By the way that number of 10,000 deaths since 2007 is grossly inaccurate, it is probably four times that number, with over a million people displaced!
