I don't think there's a word in english to say " redoubler" (maybe being held back), so did you repeat a year ?
Actually, I did "sauter une classe" (skipped a year?) when I was in CP, then I "redoubler" (repeated) twice
I've had quite the most unconventionnal school curse ever

I skipped a year when I was six, but I was in a VERY bad school, so the few next years were a real nightmare (I mean, a REAL nightmare). So my mom asked the teachers for me to repeat a year, but the teachers didn't want to: they wanted me to skip another year. hghdfgdf (sorry that's the part where my neighbour's cat walked on the keyboard)
Finally, my mother got me scholarised at home, so that I could repeat a year and go back to my normal level; eventually I did all my "collège" at home. When my parents divorced, I did repeat another year.
I finally got back at school for high school.
