I don't see how liking the band's current output is exclusive to expanding horizons. Maybe if all you listened to were Sonic Youth, but then you'd have entirely missed the philosophy of the band, and I've never really met anyone like that.

Mind, I wasn't thrilled with much of Rather Ripped, but I find most people who take the "Sonic Youth haven't done a good album since ----" insert Sister, Daydream Nation, Goo, etc. to be rather short on expanded horizons (far too often they haven't even listened to anything the band has done since that album).
