Most of my vinyl simply smells like vinyl, of the record variety--and there is a smell. Slightly petrol, slightly plastic-like, but in a nice way.
A few rare ones actually smell like something else, like Boris. I think the bubble gum smell might be coming more from the jacket than the vinyl, though. Maybe it's something they use in the ink.
My Daydream Nation CD used to smell like incense.
