Era Vulgaris has more in common with "Rated R" than probably anything else in their cataloge. I had expected Lullabies 2, due to much of the same personel; but I was pleasently suprised with what wasn't there. The arrangements are bizzare enough to make you not catch their individual nuances on the first coupla listens, yet each song slips in to the old friendly J-Ho groove, doing what they do best- subtle-artsy-boogie-rawk with pop sensibilities. I don't think it should be taken too seriously, like SFTD & LTP, but it can't help but creep out my subconscience when I listen to it. It's not QOTSA's finest moment, but it ain't no "High 'n Dry" either.
