Bukowski has been dead for nearly ten years so I doubt he could have compared the two films.
Yes, I do remember Bukowski criticising Rourke in Barfly.
But I later saw an interview with him in which he praised it as being perfect and such an accurate portrayal of him that it took him back to those days.
perhaps Bukowski's viewpoint wavered, depending on how much he'd had to drink that day.
