Beth Gibbons - Lives Outgrown
Hate to be a Debbie Downer, but this just didn't do it for me. I much prefer her debut with Rustin' Man. It is a very consistent and well-structured album, gonna give it that. But upon first listen, I found the compositions pretty drab and rigid. Beth's voice sounds more frail and she leans into the wailing vocalizations a lot more - which I'm not a particular fan of. I really liked the closing track and can appreciate some of the more playful parts peppered in here and there, but overall, I wasn't loving this. I really wanted to love this. Maybe repeat listens will do that? It remains to be seen.
