The artist, Walter De Maria, was actively engaged in the New York music scene of the 60s and briefly was a drummer for the rock group The Primitives, an early incarnation of The Velvet Underground (1965). Cricket Music and Ocean Music feature De Maria's drumming mixed with field recordings of nature and were later used as the soundtracks for his film, Hard Core (1969). - Gagosian
