I think it is considered far more vulgar in the USA than in the UK.
I personally don't use it.
None too fond of the word "cunt" either.
Both of these words are worse than "fuck" to me, vulgarity-wise, but if someone from the UK or Europe is using them, I knock them down a few notches in offensiveness because of cultural context.
Stupid? Perhaps.
