Went on a couple of charity shop vinyl binges in my current effort to get into classical music. Aside from a few particular pieces/composers that I know I like, I don't really know much at all about pre 20th century classical music at all, so I've just been buying whatever I can find lying around dirt cheap and listening with an open mind... So far I've found 3 really nice box sets:
Wagner's 'Siegfried'
Shostakovitch's 'Leningrad Symphony'
A 5lp Phillips set of 'Ten Great Violin Concertos' (containing Brahms, Bruch, Tchaikovsky, Stravinsky, 2 Bachs, Mozart, Beethoven, Mendelssohn and Paganini)
And I also found one place that was selling records for 2 for a pound, so just pretty much carried everything decent out. Got 10 records. Was especially pleased with a couple of Chopins and Tchaikovsky's 6th, on Glice's recommendation.
