The dance scene from Pulp Fiction is ripped off from Band of Outsiders -- though I did read recently that Tarantino has "outgrown Godard", whatever that means. Does that mean his movies will get worse? Or maybe it was because of Godard's quote -- "instead of ripping me off, maybe he should send me a check." ... Godard also only got Travolta in his film because he was a fan of Blow Out, which is the only movie Travolta's in I'd reccomend.... anyway, I have to remind myself, for all his faults, at least Tarantino brought Sonatine, They Beyond, and Chunking Express to America. All 9/10 films, easily. Check 'em out.

Also, I don't rate films based on anything but how they entertain me. But, man, Fargo is a masterpiece.... I like how the main character doesn't show up until like 50 minutes into the film. It isn't cookie cutter. I like how the Coens will make these crime pictures but focus on more miniscule details besides the crime itself (like Blood Simple's preoccupation with cleaning up blood... interestingly, Blood Simple was shot by Sam Raimi, and it shows... amazing camera movements). Buscemi's performance is mindblowing, one of his best, maybe only eclipsed by his acting in Living in Oblivion... Just a masterful film, with topnotch acting, direction, and storytelling. Unlike most multimilliondollars mainstream movies, it doesn't treat its audience like idiots... it doesn't mind being a bit elliptical.. it has a haunting beautiful soundtrack... it's just an amazing movie.... Coens are topnotch... It's hard to believe Barton Fink was actually a successful movie. It's so good though.
