2 years ago I was a victim of identity theft - I think it was from an online purchase from a paper company in Rhode Island, I bought some special paper for a chapbook I did.
Basically, yahoo.com used my personal info and money from checking to set up 3 internet pornography sites on yahoo servers. The bank was able to get the money back but yahoo.com - when I could actually reach a live person after sitting on hold for over an hour - would only tell me it was reseller in Australia, and when I called the reseller they told me it would have to be yahoo to take down the sites. yahoo.com kept giving me non operating numbers or my favorite was to call a # to make an appt to speak to someone but the number they gave me was just a recording telling me to call the 800#. The porn sites are still up. Yahoo would not respond to a NYPD subpoena. they are a fucking criminal enterprise. and the internet is not secure and its bullshit that all these companies are forcing us to use it for everything. They will not publish their legal dept contact info.
