Rubber-mounted plectrums
I've decided they're shit. Absolutely fucking awful. Continuing the trend of inexplicably shit threads, what plectrums do YOU think are shit?
|
I think thick plectrums are shit.
I use extremely thin translucent red sharkfin-style plectrums. |
I used to use paper thin plectrums. Now I tend to use thick ones.
|
I hate shark-fin ones, and I hate thin ones. Also, the ones with bumps suck.
I like my pics thick and standard shape. |
All good responses guys, keep 'em coming!!!!
|
i like real hard plec's
i used to borrow them off the bass player in my band like these ones, you know the black or dark grey ones by Jim Dunlop. they are my favorites, its wierd cuz i'm a lead guitarist and i feel i have more control over the strings with them. |

those are the ones i absolutely hate ! haha i like thick plectrums, but it depends on what kind of style, or what the song asks for really, for jazz and lead stuff i'll go for really thick plectrums (1mm + or big stubbies) and for regular rock/surf i like nylon 0.73 dunlops for bass i usually stick with 1.07 or 1.14mm dunlop nylons...and why nylons ? i think they have a better grip, not only for your strumming hand but also on the strings, they give better definition and are flexible.. in my opinion. ![]() |

yeah! that black one at the very end... awwww i love them ones |
![]() I use the extra heavy dunlops, the yellow ones. I love/hate them, because they are clear yellow so I lose them all the time since they are so light...I can't stand thin picks/strings. |
Tortex reds for me.
I used to use sharkfins, now I go regular. Paul Metzger likes them heavier than the market will produce. He resorts to filing old fifty-cent pieces, buffalo nickels and other coins into the desired shape. He also has a few that are made of coconut shell. |

I've had a fair few of these over the years. I don't mind the grey ones. They give them away with guitars you buy at a music shop in town. Chout, do them transparent ones break easy? I went through a stage of using them transparent Fender pics but they'd crack and break way too easily. |
chout, i used those clear yellow ones too before the nylons, sometimes they broke (heavy gauge d'addario chromes) i think that's why the nylons last longer, they're flexible, only downer is that when i scrape bass strings (can get weird sounds like that) they look like mice have been nibbling on 'em, haha

Yeh, I hate those Fender clear ones. They break or just shrink incredibly fast. |
Those felt ones for bass bug me too for some reason.
|

The Steve Vai signature picks 'r sooo lame with their little "extra-gay-grip-dots-whatever" and the signature. ![]() That's the shizzle! |

Damn right. I've got a few purple ones that I got from Kevin Sweeny the Dinosaur jr roadie. I also use this grover allman plec I found on the floor a while ago which has a picture of Jesus on it. It's really good. |
