Stereo's Gum "Best and Worst" SY albums
http://stereogum.com/1144241/sonic-y...es/lead-story/
Discuss  oh and plz ignore the title typo.. |
It's a good read, even if you don't agree with their choices- which I don't. Confusion is Sex needs to be higher up in the list, in my opinion, and Daydream Nation is too high.
|
I am going to have to agree to disagree with that but each to their own. Cant begin to start choosing but Trash Jet Set would be much further up
|
Sweet!
Thanks for the link. Also...now I have to find a cassette of their first release... |
Is the list back to front?
|
Whoever wrote that list is a fucking idiot

When they said Sonic Death was the worst album, and then had EJSTNS ahead of Bad Moon Rising AND NYC Ghosts and Flowers and they officially lost me with their horrendous sense of taste in Sonic Youth. In other words, much like Spin magazine, I am not quite sure these dudes honestly know anything about what they are talking about ;) |
rather ripped ahead of Goo and A Thousand Leaves... Im not sure an adequate justification exists for that which doesnt include an angle grinder and a medieval device of restraint.

You used to be able to listen to it on the main website, that was a few years ago though |
I hate these sort of lists. But whatever.
@Evol: The SY tape backwards is here in mp3: http://sonicyouth.com/archives/mp3-selector/index.html I always wished the re-release was disc 1: EP + backwards songs disc 2: Live |
quite inaccurate
|
Is what he said about the first EP true? That side 2 of the casette version is the same group of songs in reverse? I never heard that before, but that's pretty cool!
Of course, we have some inaccurate facts here, such as EJSTNS being recorded over the Sister masters. (Here we go again.) |
Some good points there (especially like the bit about Confusion Is Sex), of course no one will agree on the order as usual
|
Sonic youth have been boring since Sonic Nurse. If they are still interesting artists you won't get to find out on this forum for sure. It's worth checking every now and then though.

Yeah? so why you posting here then? |

Now you can fuck off. |
C'mon now.. lets get real.. we all love SY.. but for different reasons.
On another note, this AWK interview reminds me of SYG's, stereogums, et al's "List affliction" : http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=mY1UCjUrC3I |
as soon as i saw Bad Moon Rising at a low number, i figured the list was going to be a fucking joke. which i guess was true. i would rank that in my top 10 SY albums of all time, but whatever. and if they dont want to even do a separate list for some of the singles and e.p.'s then fuckem! whoever made that list oughta have their fucking eyeballs held open Clockwork Orange style and blast them fucks with Songs For Jason Knuth at full volume (and then backwards) for 24 hours.
SPIN magazine? i swear that and Rolling Stone are made from 100% recycled used toilet paper. i cannot stand those fucking magazines, just because they never seem to give bands the spotlight like they oughta, but instead shine one of those million candlelight flashlights for 5 seconds. i gave up on all that shit years ago. they dont review music, they review what they deem what the public should be listening to and not all the better stuff. it's no wonder "unknown" bands still remain unknown. thank god for good people like you's people who like the good shit! |
Honestly I think it represents how diverse and different their discography is. Getting upset over someone else's choices is pointless; at least they're not a band which everyone automatically agrees on their top 3 and worst 3 records. My list would be different too, but hey it's SY...it's all good!

Redeem their name? like as if they've tarnished their rep or something? I somehow hardly agree with your one liners... and don't need to stoop to the level of your last comment. |
