khchris(original) 04.10.2006 04:40 AM

Well, you know it was Rob Crow, the singer of Pinback's first band...right?

sonic pharmacist 04.10.2006 05:00 PM

Yeah, I loved Heavy Vegetable when they were around. Weird thing...I used to listen to Aqua Kitty all the time, then saw them live only to discover that the drummer Manolo Turner (I think the cd had him named as Manuel) was someone I used to be friends with in high school at Carlsbad. Ran into him backstage and he acted like he had no idea who I was.

Soundtrax 04.10.2006 06:10 PM

ok, my post was a joke, hope you didnt take me seriously :D but i really dont know the band at all ;)

Wow. We probably know the same people then because Rob went to prom with one of my friends and went out with another one of my friends(actually right when HV started...in Vista).

AllHandsOnTheBigOne 04.10.2006 06:45 PM

You know, I've only heard a couple songs, but I dig what I heard.

I really like Thingy though. They're amazing, they're the band Rob and Elea formed after Heavy Vegetable broke up.

You can check out a few of their songs here. The band is extremely underrated, IMO.

khchris(original) 04.10.2006 06:50 PM

THINGY were really incredible. That also had Jason Soares, who was really integral in the SD scene. Always producing and putting out records out of his own cash.

I got the 2nd 3 Mile Pilot he put out himself in potato bag jackets. At one time Mario(Clikatat, Mannequin Piss, Hot Snakes & RFTC) was playing drums.

Do you have the Staring Contest EP? I tried to order it recently, but it seems to be out of print or something.

Yeah. You can pick it up probably on Amazon.com.

AllHandsOnTheBigOne 04.10.2006 09:52 PM

Yeah, that's where I put my order in. I've been waiting like a month and a half for it to come in. So I'm guessing they're out of stock, or worse case scenario, it's out of print.

Sucks. I really want to hear it.

If San Diego has a musical genius, it's Rob Crow.

Definitely, although I would say the bassist of 3MP might be slightly more genius.

AllHandsOnTheBigOne 04.11.2006 01:37 PM

I've never heard any 3 Mile Pilot. Recommend me some?

We might know some of the same people, but like I said, I had absolutely no idea that Manuel (and Travis Nelson for that matter, another acquaintence) were in the band. Did Rob go to high school around north county too?

Really wishing I still had my copy of Aqua Kitty now...never did get Frisbie:(

The first 3 albums were great and the EP they did on Gravity was amazing.

I always suggest getting into band's early material then going up because if you start at the newest material, it's a little harder to get into the older material.

Although Chief Assasin was amazing, Another Desert Another Sea is much easier to get into and has some really incredible songs.
