None of them have even came close to being as good and very few of them have been bands I'd even care to see if the reunite.

because chasing and trying to relive halcyon days never works.

I prefer when bands just stay together into and through decline in popularity and artistic merit, rotating membership constantly, never making any new records and then hit the casino circuit when a non-songwriter bassist is the only original member left.

you just wait. they've already completed step one.

terminal pharmacy 10.24.2006 07:01 PM

no decline in artisic merit though

Cantankerous 10.24.2006 07:01 PM

are you kidding me?

against_the_grain 10.24.2006 07:49 PM

It depends on who they are...how many pivotal members are still together...etc.

Some are burnt out...physically not as adept...voices shot...whatever.

But NOT ALL !!! Old jazzers are still good...some of the old bluesers too....Seems the old rockers have spent a little more of their talents out...and can't 'hit the high notes' anymore.

Some music is timeless and can be presented well by aged musicians, whereas some is stuck in the youthful rebellion that when presented presently, is such a farce.

I just saw the original James Gang. They were excellent. They didn't come out headbanging, pretending to be 21...they're 60..but played so well, competently and with force. The sound and playing ability was as it was in the early 70s....I was amazed. And I saw them back in '72 too...so I can speak with first hand experience on that. Now when I saw the original Black Sabbath...Ozzy, Geezer, Iommi and Ward...they were great too !! But Ozzy was ragged as hell....but I'd rather a ragged Ozzy..(still had the tone, if not the pitch)...than an IMPOSTER !!

Old jazzers I've seen have for the most part maintained their musical integrity..and in some cases...are even BETTER with their age...than 30 years ago...

So it just depends...

Some bands lose ONE member...and they'll never be the same again...whereas...some bands...have ONE original, and somehow CAN attain the integrity of the old music....just depends....

Art is subjective....beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

How can you, because YOU don't like something, think that it's no good for others ?

YOU've got alot to learn.

Art is subjective, yes. Artistic merit is not.

If by saying that...you mean that Rather Ripped and Sonic Nurse have no...or less artistic merit than other releases of theirs...

You're still being elitist..or subjective about it.

You're opinion of it is no less or more than mine....that goes for Cantankerous too....I see what she said.

I still say...you have alot to learn. You're not a judge who can merit things on a measurable level....not as far as SY recordings go.
