Help to petition for Ed Wood, Jr.'s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame
|
yes
|
Yeah, lets honour the no-talent Ed Wood, the living embodiment of all things crap, and cult hero of dope junkies.
|
Ed Wood is amazing. Glen or Glenda and Night of the Ghouls are both incredible films. He's a way better director than most -- I'd take him over any contemporary mainstream Hollywood director aside from the Coens.
|
all those stars are bought, not given to the people who own them. its not a mark of anything other than having money.

The man is only reverently name dropped by idiots, who wouldn't know a decent movie if it sat on their face, by virtue of the fact his movies were the worst in Hollywood history, which the idiots feel he must be given credence for. He was an embarrassment. |

Anyway those stars are a sham, they do them for anyone with the necessary forty or sixty or whatever it is thousand dollars. |

I suppose the only good thing about Ed Wood is nobody could make a film as bad as any of his. |

Sometimes it's good to honor the low brow |

Haha. I don't agree with anything you say, but this actually made me genuinely laugh. He was an embarassment, I'm sure you're right, but I don't really pay attention to that or like his films in some ironic, anti-Hollywood way -- I genuinely like them, I see a lot of heart and a lot of craft, really interesting editing... intentional or not, he did some cool stuff. All that matters is that his films were entertaining. |
Ed Wood committed fully to his craft and really put his love into every film he made. He fought for artistic integrity for Plan 9! You can't say that about a lot of B-movie directors.
He had a good eye too. It wasn't like he was working with great actors or big budgets. He worked with what he could. And he was living his dream and was happy for a short amount of time. He kind of withered later on, but the guy had it rough. He didn't really make any of the money from Plan 9- which was actually financially successful. |
I can't personally understand anyone saying Ed Wood is a bad director. I'm not saying people have to say his films are good, but criticisizing him as a director seems silly: All his films look great... good lighting, everything in focus, great sound, etc. The plots weren't really any more hoaky than most of the other b-movies coming out at about the same time, his films just had more interesting and amusing editing and were more genuinely entertaining. That's why he's so highly remembered. If his films were TRUELY bad, like Redneck Zombies-type bad, no one would care. He's accessibly "bad", I guess. As a director, he was actually quite inspired. The floating trumpets in Night of the Ghouls is unbelievable!!! This guy really knew how to make compelling images. Ahead of his time, for real.
