De-Loused is the only one I'm really into. I hear the new one is decent, though. I miss ATDI.
experimental? well, if this is experimental, then I'm Robert Fripp.
It's just Rush meets Salsa. The VAYA Ep is still one of my favorite releases of all time. MV does not even come close to ATDI in any aspect of their music.
In/Casino/out is a gem, VAYA Ep is cool as well, Relationship of command has a couple of killer songs on it too. Mars Volta is for scene people that want to look intellectual in front of their friends.
3 studio albums,
1 live album |
well I didn't heard last album ,but de loused is so perfect, but frances the mute ,is so bad album ,i can not listen it!!
Mars Volta are wack. Wack as hell. Maybe the wackest shit I've ever seen. I walked out of their show because I was smacked in the face by their wackness, as a matter of fact the smack was so hard that it forced me to leave and weep for days. Man I fucking hate the Mars Volta. Man are they Wack.
i love the first album and the Tremulant EP is pretty awesome as well. Frances the Mute was a little disappointing, so i'm not sure if i'll buy the new one.
they have a new album? Eh, fuck em, i don't care. They always seemed so ridiculously aimless. They might actually be good songs if they didn't last 20 minutes and have 23 minutes of uselessness.

Agreed. Vaya is the only ATDI album I have, but I like it more than Relationship of Command. I used to be a big fan of The Volta, but not really anymore. However, I still really like sparta. My teacher actually toured with ATDI years back. Haha, the discussion as to whether The Mars Volta are experimental or not amuses me, because a good friend of mine (which isn't really into the same music as I'm into) asked if the mars volta were catagorized as noise. Haha, I told him to listen to White Mice and compare! |
Some magazine labeled them as noise along with 'black die'.
I think tMV kicks ass.. the new album is awesome. granted, Deloused is better when it comes to songstructure and shit.. but i love the jams and noisy bits. ATDI kicks ass, i wouldn't be able to say who i like more.

The saddest thing about the breakup of At The Drive In is that they seemed to have such a perfect balance...the normal guys kept the weird guys from getting too far out in left field while the weird guys kept the normal guys from making everything boring.
Now that they've split (the weird guys formed the Mars Volta while the normal guys formed Sparta) that balance is lost. I have a copy of Amputecture (the Mars Volta's latest) and it's okay, but some of the songs are WAYYY too long... |
I love At the Drive-In, and I like Sparta and the Mars Volta alot.
I hate them. the lead singers voice makes me want to eat my face.
