Who amongst you have vinyl production know how?

I'm looking to put out a 7inch single or 45..

in america if anyone has any experience with costs, facilities, horror vs. success stories post 'em.

i'm interested in getting 100 made but a friend said a run of 500 might be the same price if not cheaper. Ideally I only want 100.

Gracias+Thanks+Right on

I could look into it. I know the people that run Rococo Records and Johnny Rampage from Rampage Recordings. They've both put out 7 inches.

I think I remember Chout saying it was quite expensive. It seems like an unnessecary waste of moo-nay.

I guess it's how you view it - we made a comp 7'' in 96 and made 500 copies and barely sold any except to our friends since we didnt really know how to get them in stores. I still have a bunch. If you can get distribution or know that you can make your money back, go for it.

On the plus side, we had 4 bands, so it was pretty cheap with all the people splitting the cost.

We may make a split sometime or a comp again since we'd probably have better luck selling them now that we play a lot of shows and stuff.

i suggest aardvark for mastering, the prices and such are there. they will cut the master plates for you and then send them to a manufacture of your choice. after that its fairly cheap usually in the ballpark of 35 cents per record to get them made from these master plates. changes depending on exact product, quality etc. recordpressing.com does a FANTASTIC job with extremely high quality vinyl, consequently you will pay a bit more for it. united records is very cheap, esspecially for 7"s but i have heard mixed opinions on the quality of the final product. bill smith seems to be the one i hear to be most consistent. its not a very cost effective medium for a pressing of 100, when for only 35 dollars more you can get 200. packaging the item is a whole nother ballpark with a limit as much as your imagination.
