If punk had begun on "Mars", it would have sounded like...
CHROME. So, any admirers? I like their broken, abrasive, Stooges-go-industrial, grinding, burning tank engine sound and weird lyrics. Half machine lip moves and Alien soundtracks (with Confusion is sex and Bad moon rising) are two most perverted masterpieces I own. And SY's Inhuman sounds to me like it was done by Chrome.
But one friend told me that I was full of shit and that this sick "punk from Mars" band I was talking about could only be Suicide or Big Black. What do you thing? Who represents the most fucked up & decadent (punk/rock) sound? For me, Chrome. |
what about the band Mars? they very trashy and noisey, and the last track on MARS Live = holy hell!

Chrome is most excellent indeed, especially Half Machine and Alien Soundtracks, which I believe both still included Helios Creed. Some of the Damon Edge-led LPs are pretty good too, but those early ones are the best. Primitive, raw, very psychedelic in a completely new way for its time. They were a primary influence on a band I used to play in.
The band Mars were also pretty great, true. |
Thats weird... I've just started to listen to Chrome again for the first time in about 15 years!... and was actually going to start a thread about them. My favourite album of theirs at the moment is Alien soundtracks... but that could change soon.
 Agreed Mars would be a fine contender for the Punk Rock from Mars crown... also the Electric Eels, Dead C, Red Transistor or the Magik Markers. |
Both Chrome and Mars were from mars themselves so i assume that is what it would sound like.
