In Washington DC and Need Stuff to do...can someone help me out?

Hey so I'm in DC for the semester and because I'm new to these parts I am aimlessly walking and going to random parts of town. Does anyone have any cool recommendations for things to do or see? I dont really care for tourist type things. All help would be truly appreciated. thanks:)
