MTV’s Long-Awaited ‘Daria’ DVD Hits May 11

Cross another show off the “Not on DVD” list. Paramount Home Entertainment May 11 releases MTV’s Daria: The Complete Animated Series as an eight-DVD set at $72.99.

The cult-hit show had been one of the most eagerly anticipated for a DVD release, ranked No. 3 on TVShowsOnDVD.com’s list of shows not yet on disc (behind “The Wonder Years” and the 1960s “Batman”). Online petitions for a DVD have garnered more than 50,000 signatures.

The show focuses on Daria Morgendorffer (voiced by Tracy Grandstaff), an alienated teenager dealing with the trials of high school. The Daria character originally appeared on “Beavis and Butt-Head” and proved effective enough to earn her own spin-off. “Daria” ran on MTV for 65 episodes from 1997 to 2002.

The DVD set includes all the episodes, plus the “Daria” movies Is It Fall Yet? and Is It College Yet?, as well as the original pilot, “Sealed With a Kick.” Other extras include the Mystik Spiral music video “Freakin’ Friends,” Daria Day intros, cast and crew interviews, a Top 10 Video Countdown hosted by Daria and her friend Jane, and a never-before-seen Mystik Spiral spin-off script.

Fans can visit DariaOnDVD.com to order a $49.99 “Daria” package that includes the DVD set and a T-shirt with free shipping.

I can't even begin to explain my excitement! If I didn't have a 15% off coupon at Barnes and Noble, I'd snag that T-shirt package.
Picking this up immediately - no matter what!

Cool, I've had it on unofficial DVd for like 3 years (strangely, also on 8 discs, but only $20! Came with the movies, pilot, most of those extras on the official thing, as well as some extras not even listed there). But cool. Who knows, maybe Sifl and Olly will be next. Oh, and MTV's version of the Tom Green Show. And about a billion others.

Dr. Eugene Felikson 05.08.2010 04:56 PM

Yeah, I've been watching them all online. But many of the episodes are mirrored/sped up to avoid copyright issues. Plus, some of the episodes are from the show's edited run on Noggin, as opposed to the original MTV version.

The reason this show took so long to get on DVD was due to many of the copyright songs used on all the music used throughout the series. I'd love to see both of Tom's MTV shows on DVD as well. Maybe they're having similar issues? I'm sure the Canadian boxset has sold well.

The free shirt fucking sucks.

What kind of Hot Topic-looking bullshit is that?

nicfit 05.09.2010 06:03 AM

well, you'd pay lass for that + dvd than the dvds alone, so why complain :D?

ink. 05.09.2010 06:24 AM

has all the music been dumped so that they could release?

about fucking time though.

Lamont Cranston 05.09.2010 07:59 AM

the music in it never had anything to do with the show and was distracting

Anngella 05.09.2010 11:37 AM

I tried to order it from the dariaondvd website but it didn't work.... only $5 showed up in my cart (which I think was the price for the stupid t-shirt?) as opposed to $49.99. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Dr. Eugene Felikson 05.09.2010 11:48 AM

I hope they didn't dump the music. It really adds to the show's overall charm.

Jeremy 05.10.2010 06:38 AM

Oh how I love this show. Finally we are getting proper treatment of a classic.

region 1 only?

Pax Americana 05.11.2010 05:37 PM

They did dump the music. Which sucks, cause I thought it added to the show overall, and there were some seriously good songs used in many episodes. I'll still buy it though, simply because I'm a fan and haven't seen it in years!

ni'k 05.11.2010 05:38 PM
