Suggestions for lyricists, poets and vocalists to lecture a bunch of UK art students?

  • Right then - for a while now I've been trying to get my uni to agree to let me organise a guest lecture series of about 3 lectures next academic year. My Fine Art course claims to be a multi-disciplinary course, but most of the guest lectures are by strictly visual artists. So, my intention is for my uni to put their money where their mouth is and over the reigns to me for a bit, as I organise some lectures/performances etc. by musicians. Particularly lyricists and writers, I feel they may benefit alot of the artists on my course who're a bit tangled up in their own thoughts. For alot of these artists it'd be really helpful for them to hear from someone who's practiced in getting these thoughts onto paper, and within certain parameters (hence the music part). Also, some of these speakers could demonstrate the links between visual/conceptual art practice and music, the similarities in creative processes blah blah. This concept seems to be a bit beyond many students on my course, a fustration for me when I present my own work...
  • Anyway, today I got a verbal agreement from the tutor in charge, that the uni would support me organising this (pay them etc.). All I need to do is send him a bloody good proposal of who I want to lecture and why. I want to host 3 lectures, but only 2 seem like really good choices. Number 1 is Scroobius Pip - number 2 is Lydia Lunch - not too attainable agreed, but Lydia is a friend of a friend of the tutor's (I was delighted to learn) so if we speak to the right people and organise around her travels, she's possible, certainly.
  • But who else, SYG?

(I didn't want those bullet-points, not wishing to look more uptight and formal than I already am.... )

Get Lee to do it.

I would jizz in my pants at the oppertunity to do that. The idea of picking Lee up from the station and taking him to the uni campus which is next to my house is mind blowing (mind blowing enough with Lydia Lunch!). Sadly, just aint gonna happen is it...

(Lee, if you're reading, PLEASE!)

i don't know if you can help them, the only cure for idiocy is death. i don't think you can help them unless you follow )(*&^*'s suggestion.

It sounds far-fetched but how about Pete Townsend? He often talks in interviews about the impact his art school experience had on him. You never know.

David Tibet or Edward Ka-Spel.

pete townsend also should give lectures on how he loves to diddle little children in his head, while looking at his massive collections of pervert kiddie porn.

i think the idea is starting to gel--

serial killer + lyricist =

then again (bah!) there's david bowie, who was an art student but is not, to my knowledge, a serial killer (though he was a child-eating vampire in a movie). he'll probably charge £1,000,000 or a trip to the moon.

I've just had the perfect idea for my next installation. It's going to be called 'are these real art students or just a rubber hose?'. It'll be brilliant.

Also, you pre-stole my idea, therefore you owe me money.
