oz hiphop is nothing like american hiphop and when people realise that, they are more able to appreciate the genre. Ithink for a long time there were a lot of crappy oz artists trying to be american, but there are now a lot of really awesome artists just making great oz hiphop.

yeah alot of people don't understand that.

i don't think non american artists should try to sound like they're from from new york, but don't go as far as saying it's nothing like american hiphop,it wouldn't be hiphop then, it's still an american genre regardless of where it's made and what you do with it, like when people say "white rap" no such thing as far as i'm concerned.

and most rappers in america are still trying to sound like it's 1994 so it's great when different countries present newer styles, although the majority of the rap audience will ignore anything anything non american so it's hard to influence the scene

except in australia where australian hiphop is far more popular because it talks about things that having meaning to people here, it is songs about us for us. like most arts, theatre, film, viz arts, sculpture, it is how communities look at themselves.

The aussie internet censorship failure was worse.

From my experiences production wise Aussie hip hop sounds like an even weaker version of that turn of the century "take it back to da old skool" US hip hop. Although I saw this guy Ivens play and it was intense:
