Contre Le Sexisme Fucks Me Up
I mean, it just fucking scares/haunts me. Gives me nightmares and shit. I dunno.
|
|
perfect album opener, i was thinking few days ago.
|
it's a shame SY don't make any of these weird kim songs any more
|
I love it, one of my favourite kim tunes
|
I just heard this a few days ago at a club in Bloomington. Some surf band played and as soon as they stopped, CONTRE LE SEXISME played over the PA at full-blast. I was drunk and on acid (weird combo, I know) so it fucked me up.
Later in the night, they played Torch of the Mystics by SCG after a rockabilly band's set finished up. Weird. |

The greatest album of all time could have no less than a sublimely oddball
intro song. |
cough, cough... washing machine first 3 songs are lame... but rest of the album... wow.
|
weird kim songs define sy for me. some biographer (foege? browne?) said she has the moral vision of the band (or i made that up). she sings with ferocity. but remember her words are sometimes written by thurston. i love the lyric from syr when she says i sent my poem to good housekeeping. off topic, but the throatiness of the delivery is similar. by throatiness i mean the alternation of growl and whisper w/ other modulations thrown in, as in the battery park july 4th recording of making the nature scene. contre le sexisme is a great opener. but...
i never read alice in wonderland! |
i also like the part: don't you know...it's the thought--it's warm and yellow and it has a ruffle.
what would happen if thoughts really were warm and yellow? ridiculous. yet, maybe that's not what they mean? |
I really really love this track. So quiet yet disturbing. Kim's "shhhh" make me shiver.
Also for some reason it used to quiet my rabbit down (i know this ain't as cool as "i saw a buffalo while listening to it on acid" ahah). |
and then the pop misery of Sunday!
|
I love this song. For me its mood is rather warm than cold. It sounds a lullaby to me.
|
Fuckin, when the percussion comes in late in the song, it reminds me of Jacob Marley dragging his long chain up them stairs, before he bursts through the door......
"Skuuuuuuj.....I'm coming to get you, Motherfucker" |

Definitely. I think that's what they were going for. All that feedback...hard to assign a temperature, warm or cold. Kim's vox makes it warm because she is soft. Though her halting tone could be interpreted as broken-up and therefore cold...shattered. I don't know. |
