infinitemusic

how come people liking music you don't makes you angry?

jon boy 10.15.2009 06:44 PM

you tell me.

i am not sure entirely but the ways in which music can affect us can be very personal so when we see people liking music we dont it hits on the same level which causes offence.

jon boy 10.15.2009 07:14 PM

i see. thought it was a general question.

pbradley 10.15.2009 07:54 PM

What else is the purpose of discussing the quality of music other than to produce the most persuasive ad hoc argumentation in order to establish truth by consensus? I think that particular kind of music discussion requires some amount of intolerance in order to be at all meaningful. Tolerance would seem unnecessary to someone who thought that discussing the quality of music could produce any reasonable answers.

maybe he is 12.

I used to hate everyone who didn't like what I did when I was 12.

Maybe his/her parents just divorced, and the one who has him/her in custody is forcing loads of pop music down his/her throat.

nicfit 10.16.2009 04:14 AM

well it's different than that, he's been wishing death on people for mentioning music he finds disagreeable.

I don't want to suppose too much into why infinitemusic believes what he does. I don't think unreasonability is at all typical of his character and we are all capable of getting lost in our passion when it comes to those things we care most about.

However, I tend to notice that those who are the most obsessive in their taste in music are so in a reaction to what I mentioned in my last post. They abhor the very idea that value cannot be derived from matters of fact. Commonly, this reaction originates in what they think of ethics and infinitemusic has struck me in the past to have that kind of assurance of ethics that can be conducive to that kind of thinking.

But I'm obviously reading too much into this like usual and doing more harm than good. Psychoanalyzing someone I only know through a message board is a pretty dick move. I need to sleep.

atsonicpark 10.16.2009 07:13 AM

..all this over Beyonce?

Interesting!

i'm just surprised how someone can get so riled up by people saying they like such and such a performer.

Glice 10.16.2009 11:58 AM

You remember the person we don't name now Herr & Bowels, don't you? Is it really that much of a surprise that the internet hosts fuckwits?

notyourfiend 10.16.2009 11:58 AM

I've totally missed infinitemusic's death threats.

I have, however, found that he likes getting himself in the middle of arguements.
