Joni Mitchell

Any fans here? I really like her voice, and her music and lyrics are sometimes fantastic. I've only got Blue and the Dreamland compilation, and I love them both.

So what do you think of the woman?

not a fan myself singer songwriters give me a pain!

DemonBox 06.28.2006 10:56 AM

Well, I'd never think I would like her music. I found Big Yellow Taxi so annoying, but after listening to her music for some time, I just could not ignore to good songs, like: The Jungle Line, Carey, Free Man In Paris.

blue is good cd. a freind burned it for me a while back. i need to break it out and listen to it. beck said that 'blue' was a big influence on his 'sea change' record

I can see myself liking her music and respecting her alot, one day. But right now, I'm just into her. No dislike - just no interest.

i've never listened to her too much, but "songs for aging children" is a great song. i can't remember what album it's on, though.

I like her more folky stuff. Blue is excellent. River and The Last Time I saw Richard are two of the best songs ever recorded.

i have Blue, The Hissing of Summer Lawns, and Hejira. they are all fantastic, she is my favourite female singer songwriter!

'Sweet Bird' from 'the hissing of summer lawns' has some of the most beautiful lyrics ever written.

"Out on some borderline, Some mark of inbetween
I lay down golden-in time, And woke up vanishing
Sweet bird you are, Briefer than a falling star
All these vain promises on beauty jars
Somewhere with your wings on time, You must be laughing
Behind our eyes, Calendars of our lives
Circled with compromise
Sweet bird of time and change, You must be laughing
Up on your feathers laughing
Golden in time
Cities under the sand
Power, ideals and beauty, Fading in everyone's hand
Give me some time, I feel like I'm losing mine
Out here on this horizon line, With the earth spinning
And the sky forever rushing
No one knows
They can never get that close
Guesses at most
Guesses based on what each set of time and change is touching
Guesses based on what each set of time and change is touching
Guesses based on what each set of time and change is touching

For some reason, I own Miles of Aisles. It's probably the most boring record I own.

screamingskull 02.23.2007 07:13 PM

i was about to start a thread titled 'Will anyone ever be as good as Joni Mitchell?'. Ive had her song 'gallery' in my head all day.

Torn Curtain 02.24.2007 09:45 AM

I like Clouds (a strong influence on Nick Drake - just compare "Both sides, now" and "Voice from the mountain"), Blue, For the roses and Hejira.

She's a very talented guitar player in my opinion.

Kylerobert 02.25.2007 06:33 PM

Blue is sick

Danny Himself 02.25.2007 06:39 PM

They pave paradise, and put up a parking lot..

I use one of her tunings. GBDGDG.

lungfish 02.25.2007 08:08 PM

her song "Cactus Tree" is one of my favorite songs ever.
