blur - song 2 thread
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SSbBvKaM6sk
woo hoo. Brilliant (cliché) grunge parody song, or something, that still rules. discuss. |
You know that little slidey bass part at the end of the chorus? Oh man. So good.
|
Hell yeah! Those later Blur records are so fantastic, and never seem to get enough love when compared to, say, Parklife, which in my opinion gets it's ass kicked by 13. Bugman kills! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UG0VpTc47Uw
Anyway, don't want to sidetrack too much from the whole Song 2 love in. It's a fucking class track, that's for sure. |
Isn't Song 2 the one where Blur went from being a quite clever band singing quite clever songs about quite stupid people who go on club 18-30 holidays, to a quite clever band singing quite stupid songs for quite stupid people who go to ice hockey games?

a chap i work with looks like graham coxon. sometimes i go over to his flat and we watch the simpsons and its like watching tv with graham coxon.
|
pretty good song, although I'm not much of a Blur fan
|
"Brilliant" is a little bit of an overstatement
|
Blur have done better songs. I've done better songs. I've shat better songs.
I like Blur. Actually, they're probably the one band I'd have in my actual top 10 bands that, if I were asked to construct a top 10 bands, I'd forget were one of my top 10 bands. But... I mean, there are better songs on Leisure and the Great Escape (their shittest albums). |
1. "Song 2" was the first 7" single I ever bought.
2. The entire album BLUR is brilliant. It's a britpop album in theory only. But really it's a tribute to American Indie rock. 3. Graham Coxon is one of the most unsung guitar players of the 90's. |
Graham Coxon is unsung on your side of the Atlantic. He's bigger than Bernard Butler over here.
|
really? I didn't realize that to be honest. I guess I knew that Blur was big over there, but...
is everyone into his solo records over there? I feel like they're barely known of here. |
Oh, God no. But there really haven't been that many guitar heroes over here. We don't really make metal and the indie thing will forever be tainted by the Denim/ Sarah records nonsense, so Coxon is basically the best guitarist since... fucking hell, we're absolutely shit at making popular guitarists, I can't think of a one anyone's heard of.

I like ''The Great Eascape'' a lot, I think it's one of their best. Particularly songs like ''He Thought of Cars''. That ''Country House'' song is vile, though. |
i hate this song

WHOOOOO HOOOOO!!!!!!! |
Graham does some mind-fucking shit on BLUR. Like the tubeamp-kicking in "On Your Own." O. M. G.
|
Like many Americans, Song 2 was the first Blur song I ever heard. That whole album is fantastic, and possibly their best. Other faves on that disc are Beetlebum, Theme From Retro, MOR, You're So Great, Death of a Party, I'm Just a Killer for Your Love, Strange News From Another Star, and Essex Dogs...
Yeah, it's been jock-ified in a lot of ways, but it's one jock song I can understand the love for... |
I figured most of us Americans knew Blur initially from "Boys & Girls"... no?
BLUR is amazing. But their best is either MODERN LIFE IS RUBBISH or 13. Depending. Blur fucking rule. |

I don't GET how Black Sabbath could come from there and you don't fucking make metal? Not that I really care because almost everything after them was shit anyway. |
for old times' sake...
