Raincoats Are Back!

So I just got the usual email update from killrockstars and look!

SALUTATIONS. THE SECRET IS OUT. THE RAINCOATS + KRS=WOW.

So I go on vacation and come back in time to announce some of the most
exciting news in Kill Rock Stars history:

THE RAINCOATS ON KILL ROCK STARS!!! COMING TO THE U.S.!!!!!

We'll be reissuing the first LP from The Raincoats on October 13th!!!
The KRS version will also include the single song Fairytale in the
Supermarket.

Side A

1) Fairytale in the Supermarket
2) No Side To Fall In
3) Adventures Close to Home
4) Off Duty Trip
5) Black and White
6) Lola

Side B

1) The Void
2) Life on the Line
3) You're a Million
4) In Love
5) No Looking

The band will also be coming over to play some U.S. shows including
their very first West Coast dates ever:

October

09 - San Francisco, CA @ Mezzanine - Part Time Punks mini-fest
11 - Los Angeles, CA @ The Echo - Part Time Punks mini-fest
13 - Portland, OR @ Holocene w/ Panther, Explode Into Colors
16 - New York, NY @ The Knitting Factory

We've known about this for awhile and it's been hard to keep it a
secret!!! It's not every day that you come to work and find out you
get to work on re-releasing your favorite records of all time!

Wow. What an honor. We are totally psyched and can't wait to announce
the Pre-Order. That will happen soon, details will be revealed in the
coming weeks so stay tuned for that, ok???

love,

I really really hope they play the UK. I remember posting on their myspace years ago saying I think a vinyl reissue should be done and now out of the blue its finally happening. Needs some bonus material tho. I don't understand what tobi's saying about the single song of fairytale in the supermarket. there must be 2 version or something. I definitly understand what she means by this tho "It's not every day that you come to work and find out you get to work on re-releasing your favorite records of all time!"

Awesome news on the vinyl reissue of the debut. One of my favorites.

If you've never heard this band before go here and watch some of their videos

http://www.ginabirch.net/theginabirc...ts_videos.html

Looks like Gina is working on a DVD
From ginabirch.net:

The Raincoats DVD

The Raincoats dvd is a work in progress. I am making a documentary interviewing people such as Geoff Travis, Caroline Coon, Lucy O’Brien, Vivienne Goldman, Robert Wyatt, Beth Ditto, Peaches, Viv Albertine, Green, Andy Gill, Ana, Gina, Shirley, Jean Marc, Anne Wood and Vicky Aspinall.

This will be shown along with live footage from 1978 to 2008, music videos, still photos and other incidentals

There is a trailer for it here

Anyone heard that hangovers album? I'm going to track it down on CD

I looooooove them and I will definitely see them if they come here and it's affordable.

thanks!

1. Will believe it when I see. Have read all kinds of things about reissues existing over the years and have never seen them.

2. Hate the hype. Why do some bands/labels wait so long to reissue things they know everybody wants? Answer: Bucks.

..and of course SY has never used the same tactic?

ni'k 08.16.2009 02:45 PM

it's definitly happening. and it's hardly hype, it's an email from tobi vail who is obviously genuinely excited to do the reissue's because she's such a fan. Obviously there is money to be made, but I don't see how you can get crotchety in this particular case, there is real sentiment here.

They have, and I hate them for it.

ni'k 08.16.2009 02:46 PM

i mean there is hype but it's not false impersonal cynical add copy it's hype in the same way somebody enthusing to their friends after seeing a great band live is hype

Well, the real sentiment sure did take the long way around on pulling the trigger.

You can't turn a Raincoats thread into negativity.

THAT is the best news I heard since I heard The Raincoats were getting back together..

Mrs. Butcher 08.17.2009 02:00 PM

they are playing in the UK, at least I know they have a date in Leeds in early september.

gmku 08.17.2009 02:10 PM

Aren't they a little old to be running around in a rock band?
