So I finally got The Eternal today
hadn't read any press releases or reviews or forum posts about it - was only vaguely aware there was a new album. It was really...ordinary?

has any SY album ever been "ordinary?"

ps: I can't get into the eternal....at all (although I've sincerely tried).

I'm hoping that it turns into something that I kick myself for not liking two years from now.

meh, every band has their own style. sonic youth has been playing for nearly 30 years, of course they have their own standards by which we judge them. but i still don't think that they can ever be "ordinary." i personally heard a lot in the eternal which borrowed from their previous work but i still don't think that it's ordinary.

funny you should say that. I was telling myself just yesterday "self, I sure wish nic would fix this for me".

it worked so well for Dear Science. so very well in fact that I think it might be their best album yet.

I still haven't picked it up. Took me a long time to buy Rather Ripped too, where I bought Nurse the day it came out, if I recall correctly.
