New O'rourke album!
Jim O'Rourke Returns With New Album
Visitors set for September release via Drag City. ![]() Photo by Kahimi Karie It's been eight years since onetime Sonic Youth member, Wilco producer, and overall indie institution Jim O'Rourke put out a new solo album of original material onDrag City. That's set to change September 8 in the U.S. (August 31 in the UK), when the genre-skipping artist unveils his newest LP, Visitors. (Via The Wire.) According to the label, the record is more song-oriented than his excursions into avant-electronics (see: stuff like 2001's I'm Happy, and I'm Singing, and a 1, 2, 3, 4 or 2007's collaboration with Merzbow and Carlos Giffoni, Electric Dress). It's apparently more in line with O'Rourke's somber instrumental LP Bad Timing than his sly pop records, Eureka and Insignificance. |
I'm going to be a bit more brusque here than on Facebook.

Is that from the press release?... Technically, it's not set to change, it'll still be 8 years since he released an album. Hmm, just felt like pointing that out, had a crap day. Good news though, a new J o'R album... |
Jimbo Rock!
|
Cool.
I guess the album's title is a reference to the album Mr Newton (Bowie) makes in the Nick Roeg film "The Man Who Fell To Earth"... |

Surely it's a reference to that shitty 80's sci-fi series? |
looking forward to hear what he's up to with his music these days. thanks for info.
|
Cool. The "Two Nice Catholic Boys" album he did with Loren Connors has been getting a lot of spins lately.
|

|
I miss Jim.
