If they only get 14 years, only one life sentence for her boyfriend, or the mother has 1/3 of the sentence written off, it means that it's perfectly acceptable to murder your own son, or let others do the job for you. According to British law.

a life sentence carries a recommendation so you can be given a life sentence with a rec that you serve a minumum of four years say. i this case i think they will each serve at least twenty.

having worked in a prison i can tell you that they will all be under very tight protection but even the screws will be playing games with them and making their existence a very painful one.

Reading that made me sick to my stomach. Seriously. It hurts my heart and saddens my soul. :(

This case sound very similar to what happened in Holland a couple of years ago and will probably have a similar effect on child protection in the UK.

This woman's "I'm sorry" letter smells of an opportunistic sentence reduction attempt. I hope she gets the maximum sentence - she was as complicit in his death as the other people convicted.

Far worse that society creates such individuals, rather than their punishment not meeting a standard someone deems sufficient.
