i'm not an actor but i do work in the industry. with out relevant experience and training it is infinitely more difficult to get a job. but ask any questions i will answer what i can.

it's mostly just that i'm nervous to apply to something i'm not qualified for, but i can never get anything for my resume if i don't try.

i saw an ad for people to be in some sort of pentecostal propaganda video, where the role is to sit behind a minister and look interested in what he's saying, and they want to know yr work history and all that for a role anyone could do.

i'm thinking about just sending faceshots and replying to lot's of ads until someone is desperate enough to give me a chance and then putting that experience in my portfolio, but i'm not sure it will ever work

you will need decent head shots to start with, but being qualified doesn't necessarily mean you are good, so don't worry so much about that. have you done any theatre, amateur theare, anything at all?

noisereductions 04.11.2009 09:57 AM

I was talking to my wife, Dixie... and she said you weren't a very good actor...

i've done like some very amateur improv comedy, and i did some workshops at a festival about 4 years back.

i guess if i get someone to shoot me some professional looking headshots i could at least get considered, and i could go to some kind of workshop in the summer time.

i'm so understimulated and need some artistic action asap, and i'm definitely not ready to take my musical act to the stage at this current time haha

in australia at least it is incredibly difficult to get work even if you are trained, and more so if you not, out of all the actors i know in australia i only know one who is untrained that gets work, part of that is 'cos she is super hot and he other part is she has some good raw natural talent.

auditions are incredibly hard to get without having an agent. it is advisable to do some workshops, particularly with reputable theatre companies. these will look much better on your cv than a workshop with someone or a company who no-one has heard of. apart from that, maybe look into what sort of training is available at the universities and colleges. Perhaps try and get involved with a new up and coming theatre company or perfromance company.

as for the head shot, it is important that you atleast have something professional looking. it isn't hard to get a decent head shot and you don't necessarily have to get one professionally shot if you know someone with a decent slr.

Yes, everytime I play a gig I 'act' like a musician.

Then when it's over I go back to being a nerd.

Also everytime ppl come after a show and say how much they like us I 'act' like Im surprised.

Also, everytime I play pool and make a shot, I 'act' like I'm 'not' surprised.

thanks, i think it might be easier here than most places, based on the large amount of talent needed ads about

i guess it depends whether you want to make a career out of it or not, but talent needed ads don't necessarily mean properly paid work, in fact lots of places will advertise this way to try and get people with no industry experience 'cos they won't complain about the pay or conditions.

I hate acting. doing the same shot over and over and over. The most boring job I've ever done I think. I actually prefer the bland office administration stuff I do now than that. The industry of lies and illusion. the money can be really good, though.

afterthefact 04.13.2009 11:19 AM

Maybe if you could get your lines right, you wouldn't have to do so many takes.

ITT: we learn that Tesla starred in Punky Brewster as Punky's "hip bit kooky" art teacher.

It will be easier to convince people you were a child star if you have some kind of record for petty crimes as a young adult.
