I'm gonna go rock.

Bye. Time for practice.

fishmonkey 06.14.2006 02:15 PM

oh fuck i hate when its time to practice. i always make up all these lame ass excuses like... "my hemmorrids are at me" or " i wanna watch i'm a celebrity get me outa here"
i'm assuming you mean band practice.
i'm the lazy fucker in my band always wanting to play gigs but never wanting to practice.

marleypumpkin 06.14.2006 02:50 PM

I just got to practice w/ my new group yesterday. We've been recording off & on, but now that I'm staying @ my buddies house (whom w/ I started the group) we can practice virtually anytime now. FUCK YEAH!

Savage Clone 06.14.2006 02:57 PM

Practice is usually the highlight of my week.

CHOUT 06.14.2006 08:27 PM

We rocked.

I have the my new pedalboard nearly mastered, though it's a little awkward singing and playing guitar on one foot while I switch on a pedal from the top tier, but it's like a fun physical challenge.

Finally we each got our own keys for the practice space, we had been borrowing one of the sets from the other band until the owner made more.

I have a new policy of wearing earplugs at practice now. Going to get a pair of the good ones that aren't so muffled sounding and copy Max and connect the earplug holder to my pedal board. Thanks for the great idea Max!

It's great running the vocals and drum machine through a real PA instead of my stereo like we used to do when we practiced in my room. I blew two sets of speakers that way.

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 06.14.2006 08:46 PM

Don't drum machines sound so much better when some wattage is pushing them?

What drum machine do you use btw?

CHOUT 06.14.2006 09:16 PM

yEP we have lots of power. It's a boss dr-3, the cheapest one. Sounds arent the best, but its held up for a while now. My bandmate has his songs on a real cheap zoom machine, not sure which one.

Savage Clone, I want to see your practice space. Post some pics!

Savage Clone 06.15.2006 01:18 AM

I'll post some pix after we clean it up post-Heliotrope.
That place is a mess right now!

marleypumpkin 06.15.2006 01:25 AM

Hey! Just got done jamming out w/ the new crew. & so far, so good.
I was pretty decent on drums, guitars were pretty good. So all in all a good practice.

CHOUT 06.15.2006 01:33 AM

Cool marleypumpkin
What's you band's name?

youthoftomorrow 06.15.2006 01:36 AM

my band is finally coming together (after months of talk). my buddy Justin is getting a drum set with his next paycheck and a cousin of mine is giving me a big ol' geetar amp. we're gonna call the band Lava Yeti. think stoner metal meets punk meets we suck at our instruments.

CHOUT 06.15.2006 01:42 AM

Sounds good, youthoftomorrow.
Be sure to post some sounds when you record them.

Norma J 06.15.2006 01:55 AM

My band is going through bandmember trouble, at the moment. So it's not exactly a fun time practicing, hence why we haven't as much lately and just been rocking up to gigs and playing messy sets. We've had to cancel a bunch of shows due to this hassle. Hopefully it will be resolved soon... and we get a drummer with integrity.

CHOUT 06.15.2006 02:13 AM

Save some trouble and get a drum machine. Fuckin' drummers. They're all trouble.

Norma J 06.15.2006 02:15 AM

I've often thought of that idea, whilst listening to Big Black.

I would love to be able to jam with other people though! I have been playing more lately and am feeling the need to go buy more gear instead of cd's or some shit. I am going this weekend for a new pedal. I'm thinking a Ratt, or a new BigMuff since the one I have is hammered. CHOUT or Savage Clone- you guys are rock stars- what is the cheapest, but most decent quality recording equipment I should look into? I just want a way to record what I play. Nothing too crazy, nothing too technical. Any help would be much appreciated. ;)

Savage Clone is definitely the rockstar of us two - have you seen his pants?

Shoot, I'm older than you! Hope is not lost Kegmama!

If you're starting out with recording, I'd recommend a basic cassette 4 track. I started out with a Fostex X-12 I think it's called. As basic as it gets.

However, with the manufacturing of cassettes dwindling:( and digital at the forefront now, perhaps there's some easy cheap digital recorders out that someone could recommend.

Here's a digital 4-track. I know there are smaller cheaper ones, but I'm not finding much on musician's friend.

This is cheaper than the one above and it's an 8 track, so you'd have lots of space. These have a good rep - I was actually going to buy one before I decided on my 16 track. Plus it has a hard drive so you don't have to worry about flash cards.

finding nobody 06.15.2006 03:11 AM

i record using one of these

you can get one for around 300 dollars. a fine machine it is.
you can go to my pure volume to hear recordings that i made with it
4 is plenty enough tracks for me. and if not. there's other ways to get more
