The Shop Assistants were one of the greatest bands ever to walk this earth.

Wooden Shjips had much promised on their behalf, but didn't really deliver.

White Hills do a very nice take on the whole post-Loop/Spacemen 3 drone/psych thing, with a bit of extra heaviness thrown in for good luck. I'm not sure that their legacy will be as great as that of their influences though.

The Love Is So Fast - don't know them
Ducktails - saw him live last year which was pretty good, dunno his recorded output
The Heads - good live band; like them somewhat less on record.
White Hills - only heard their myspace stuff which was OK, might go see them on Roadburn
Wavves - alright
Smith Westerns - don't know them
Yellow Tears - don't know them
Sachiko - good
Starving Weirdos - good
The Hunches - don't know them
Wooden Shjips - good on record, boring live
Wet Hair - not as good as raccoo-oo-oon were
The Shop Assistants - i liked the few things i've heard

Trasher02 02.17.2009 07:18 AM

Don't know any of those, damn.

Toilet & Bowels 02.17.2009 09:03 AM

The Love Is So Fast - not bothered
Ducktails - like
The Heads - like
White Hills - don't know
Wavves - whatevvs (see what i did there?)
Smith Westerns - dunno
Yellow Tears - dunno
Sachiko - ok, some excellent stuff, some i don't like at all
Starving Weirdos - ok
The Hunches - like
Wooden Shjips - like a lot on record, crappy when i saw them live
Wet Hair - don't think i've heard them yet, crap name though
The Shop Assistants - like, but i'd rather listen to the aislers set

I only really know Wooden Shjips (over-rated sub-Hawkwind tosh when witnessed live, pretty average on record), and the Shop Assistants (wonderful)

EDIT - Didn't see The Heads mentioned when I first read this! - those guys totally kill live, and the records I've heard have been ace. Easily one of my fave current UK acts.

White Hills are freaking EXCELLENT, and probably the band I want to open for the most right now.

stu666 02.17.2009 10:46 AM

Ducktails - excellent, i love every release i've heard
The Heads - i like
Wavves - are ok
Starving Weirdos - good
Wooden Shjips - good
Wet Hair - v.good

Ducktails - Great 7'' single, that's the only thing I've heard.

The Heads - 10+ bands, they sound like they could totally slay live. They're totally blinding on their split with Wooden Shjips.

White Hills - Of the two cdr's I've heard, only one grabbed me enough to give it repeated listenings.

Wavves - I like one song, the rest seems too half-arsed.

Smith Westerns - Pretty neat garage-punk band. Check out their 7'' single 'Irukandji'. 'Crabman' is the hit.

Yellow Tears - Got their 'The Pissmop' LP last year after reading some online reviews. I thought it was a patchy noise records, if there is such a thing. Some tracks, like 'Nectars Of The Passion', are excellent, too many others lower the overall quality of the record.

Sachiko - Everything I've heard so far bored me.

Starving Weirdos - Really into them.

The Hunches - Their new album 'Exit Dreams' is my first favourite album this year.

Wooden Shjips - Everything I've heard on record has been excellent.

Wet Hair - On the tour tape from last year they're brilliant. On 'The Beach' they're even better. Definitely one my favourite bands I've discovered last year. At times they're like the bastard child of Suicide and Spacemen 3, with a singer who switches between Alan Vega/Ian Curtis impersonations.

The Shop Assistants - Legends.

I know a guy from Yellow Tears. They are FACE-MELTING live, but I think I'm out of my harsh noise phase.

floatingslowly 02.17.2009 07:39 PM

never heard of a single one.

I should get out more.

Savage Clone 02.17.2009 07:45 PM

I like Sachiko a lot, but the bias is too strong for me to be objective. Too close to home, that one.

uhler 02.18.2009 12:38 AM

the only band i heard or really like is the shop assistants. well, i really like the shop assistants. wavves are hit and miss. mostly miss.

fugazifan 02.18.2009 03:26 AM

i only know wooden shjips. their album is excellent
it has a great groovey doors/noise rock vibe
or something...
its a shame you guys say they suck live, it sounds like music that would transfer well to a live setting

dntrecords 02.18.2009 03:38 AM
