Scratch - Hip Hop Documentary

Very interesting and full length: http://www.youtube.com/watch?gl=GB&h...&v=LGrchxm_BBU

I dnt mean to nitpick, but it's not a hip hop documentary. It's a documentary about DJ's and turntablism. Quite good. Same director as Hype!

sarramkrop 02.08.2009 10:42 AM

I can see what you mean, even though it does concentrate on hip hop DJ's and turntablists too heavily to simply say ''It's a documentary about DJ's and turntablism''. Whichever the case might be, I thought it was very good.

noisereductions 02.08.2009 10:56 AM

true. true. I was really letdown that DJ Spooky was not included. But all in all it's a very good watch.

jennthebenn 02.08.2009 11:14 AM

Well, DJing is one of the "hip hop elements"...so close enough!

Very cool doc. DJ Shadow in the record store basement was amazing, for a
variety of reasons.

DJing is my favourite of the four elements. It's probably the most underappreciated too, but really, guys like Prince Paul, DJ Hurricane, Mix Master Mike, Terminator X.. absolutely some genre-defining material..

by far my favorite part of the film. That scene actually teared me up.

andrei 02.08.2009 12:52 PM

Christian Marclay is included in the DVD's bonus features. Interesting stuff...

greedrex 02.08.2009 01:01 PM

excellent, thx

noisereductions 02.08.2009 01:03 PM

Ah,yes. Isn't it the scene with Marclay gluing broken records together? Brilliant.

al shabbray 02.08.2009 03:54 PM

nice, perfect watch for this evening, thanks!

This Is Not Here 02.08.2009 06:38 PM

hmmm sounds interesting, shall give that a watch later

Toilet & Bowels 02.08.2009 07:19 PM

i love this film, i've seen it 10 or 15 times

batreleaser 02.09.2009 11:30 AM

Yeah its cool they added Marclay, as to me he is certainly the most important non-hip hop turntablist. I would have really liked to see some early Rza stuff on there.

noisereductions 02.09.2009 12:00 PM

I dnt think Rza ever touched a turntable, man. He's a producer, but not a DJ. He used a sampler exclusively to craft 36 CHAMBERS. And even now he mostly uses like Korg Tritons and shit like that. I've never once heard him DJ, unless you know something I don't?

Great movie. I'm surprised its been this long since it came out that a thread was opened for it. Nice work, pork.

And to this day hip hop DJ's aresome of the few I also consider to be musicians as such.

noisereductions 02.10.2009 07:55 PM

Some truly are. Shadow, Spooky, Olive, Swamp, Z-Trip, etc.

Toilet & Bowels 02.10.2009 07:57 PM

any of the guys in that film

noisereductions 02.10.2009 07:59 PM

still can't believe Spooky was left out. That dude is amazing.
